A former WHO member cited a study by several countries’ researchers.
Karol Sikora, medical director of the Rutherford Cancer Centers and former head of the World Health Organization’s oncology program, said on Twitter that “there is a real possibility that the virus will naturally disappear before a vaccine is developed.”
“We are seeing an approximately similar pattern everywhere, I suspect that we have more immunity than estimated. We need to continue to slow the virus down, but it may be running out on its own”, he suggested on social media.
Asked about the scientific veracity of these statements, the former WHO member referred to a study signed by Portuguese, Brazilian, British and American researchers, placed this week on the medRxiv platform, but which has not yet been published.
