More than 165 kilometers of wall have been completed.
The President of the United States assured, in his third annual State of the Nation speech, that by the beginning of next year the wall on the border with Mexico will have more than 800 kilometers built. More than 165 kilometers of wall have been completed and “there will be more” 805 kilometers built “at the beginning of next year”, declared Donald Trump on the project to combat the entry of illegal immigrants across the southern border of the United States.
On the other hand, the American head of state said he supported “the hopes” of Cubans, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans “to restore democracy” in their countries. “As we restore America’s leadership in the world, we continue to support freedom in our hemisphere. That is why my government revoked the previous administration’s failed policies on Cuba. We are supporting the hopes of Cubans, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to restore democracy”, he pointed out.
In the same speech, Trump took the opportunity to pay tribute to Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, present at the Capitol, promising to “crush the tyranny” of Nicolás Maduro’s regime. “Maduro is an illegitimate leader, a tyrant who treats his people brutally. But his tyranny will be crushed and destroyed”, he declared. “With us in the gallery is Venezuela’s legitimate president Juan Guaidó. All Americans are united with the Venezuelan people in the just fight for freedom”, he said. Guaidó is recognized as interim president by more than 50 nations, including Portugal, after the opposition leader self-proclaimed Venezuela’s interim president on January 23rd, 2019.
