The United Nations considers that the growing global warming is confirmed, marked by the increase of extreme weather phenomena. 2016 was the hottest year and 2019 followed, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

“Unfortunately, many extreme weather phenomena await us in 2020 and in the coming decades, motivated by the record levels of concentration of greenhouse gases that retain heat in the atmosphere,” said Petteri Taalas, secretary general of the United Nations agency Nations (UN) in a statement.

The official said that the year started with “strong meteorological and climatic phenomena”, as in Australia, which “had its warmest and driest year in 2019”, he added.
