Police investigates newborn’s death and arrests couple in Newbury

A baby less than a month old died last Saturday, following a cardiac arrest.

English police are investigating the death of a newborn baby in Newbury, Berkshire. Authorities have already arrested a couple, but are looking for anyone who might have more information about the case.

Colby Lawton, who was born on April 10, died last Saturday, on the eve of completing one month, following a cardiac arrest.

The Thames Valley police released the case Thursday, but officials have not revealed whether the two detainees, a 24-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, are the parents or the degree of kinship or relationship with the baby.

In a statement, the police said that the preliminary autopsy result was not conclusive, and therefore the “cause of death is uncertain”.

Emergency services called the police to a residence in Founstain Gardens, close to 1:50 am on Saturday, after being called in to help a newborn. The baby arrived alive at the hospital but eventually died.

“This is a tragic and distressing incident and I understand that this news is causing great concern for the community. (…) I ask anyone who has information that may be relevant to the investigation to urgently contact the police”, appealed the chief inspector of the criminal unit of the Thames Valley Police, Stuart Blaik.
